Derelict 1.0 Final Release --October 15, 2000: Posted by Agatheron

As someone a long, long time ago once said "It is finished..." The full Derelict campaign is now completed and available here on the Volition Watch Archives. Kellan and I have certainly enjoyed putting Derelict together, and we certainly hope that after 10 months, it was worth the wait. Enjoy!

Derelict Trailer --September 6, 2000: Posted by Agatheron

Well, the final mission for Derelict is completed. However, we are never ones for working in sequence, and in order to make that last mission work, Kellan has been busy perfecting his last two missions. They should be finished shortly. Never to leave you high and dry, however, we now have for your viewing pleasure a trailer for Derelict. It requires Flash in order to see and hear it, plus it's about 150k, but trust me, it's well worth it. Enjoy!

Final Countdown --August 28, 2000: Posted by Agatheron

I sat in front of my computer last night feeling a bit stunned. I finally fixed the last annoying SEXPs on the second-to-last mission that I am designing for Derelict. It means I have ONE MISSION LEFT to finish, and Kellan is on the homestretch too.

Like IceFire and Warzone, it's been 10 months since the idea for Derelict first rattled around in my head, and eight months since Kellan convinced me to get serious about the campaign. Some 45 missions later (watch this space for the exact count once I pull the campaign file together), we're on the verge of having everything finished.

I apologize if I haven't maintained this website as well as I could, but hopefully you'll forgive me for working on missions instead of the website :-)

In the meantime, here's the new image of the GTFf Cypher, a Saphah class frigate. Yes, it will have this new skin in the final release of the campaign, looks just as good in the game. Special thanks to Dark for providing us with this .pof and Kellan for the .tbl design of this mod of the Iceni. Enjoy!

A Real Push for Voice Acting --August 1, 2000: Posted by Agatheron

Actually, I am posting this on behalf of Kellan, but we now have the last all-call for voice-acting for the Derelict Campaign. If you want to have your voice included in one of the largest user-created campaigns for FreeSpace 2, email Kellan!

Now nearing completion, the campaign will have a final tally of 43 individual missions. We hope to be releasing both a full-voice and no voice versions of the campaign, but trust me, the full-voice will be well worth the download.

Patch Release -- July 2, 2000: Posted by Agatheron

Well, with the 0.99 release, there was one major bug that needed to be fixed before we start working with getting the minor ones out. This, of course, being the bug with the Whispered Prayer mission, which would report back as failed, even with all objectives realized. So, if you are stuck on that particular mission, here's the new one. Simply replace it with the old, and it will work fine. This has been updated in the .zip file included on this site (see below), so you don't have to worry about downloading this patch if you download the 0.99 Campaign prerelease.

Well, we not only have our website problems solved, we now have the Derelict 0.99 Release completed for your downloading pleasure. Included are 22 missions that cover approximately the first half of the campaign, new squad logos, new planets, and the stars.tbl to make sure everything runs smoothly. We hope you enjoy it, and would appreciate any feedback that you might have. It's been a long time in coming, we hope it has been worth the wait!

Progress on Derelict has reached a fairly critical stage. We're now playtesting a campaign file that covers the first 2/3rds of the campaign! Wow! If you're wondering how large Derelict is going to be, let's just say that it has turned into something as big as the original campaign. Once completed, Derelict will consist of approximately 35-40 missions. Since Kellan and I are in the final stretch of mission creation, we should be able to have a final figure by the end of the week.

If anyone is interested in providing voices for us, we still have some openings that need to be filled. If you feel you can offer your vocal cords to us, by all means, email us!

If you ever wondered what Kellan actually does around here, consider him the driving forces behind making Derelict work. It was his idea that I should make Derelict a full campaign, and has done a lot to help me develop the storylines past their original idea. He's also been hard at work making many many many missions for this campaign. When all is said and done, approximately half of the completed missions will be his creations.

Of course, that's not to say I haven't been doing my work either. However, it is now time that my associate reveal his first mission that is a part of the Derelict campaign. He has, and you can find The Third Man  posted at Descent Chronicles Mission Archive. It's the first new mission from Derelict to be posted in two months!

We're also pleased to offer yet another battery of screenshots for your viewing pleasure... Here's our usual taste:

Hey? A new weapon? Or just not following healthy advice?

Ahem...well, it's been almost a month since the last update of the site. Ooops. Anyway, we now have enough time and information to actually make a substantial update to the site. So, here goes...

Since the last update, both Agatheron and I have been working hard on creating more missions for the campaign. Several have been completely finished and there are plenty at various stages of development. In fact, here's some proof - here is one of six brand new screenshots:

It's not fun being on the wrong side of a blockade

Progress has also been speeded up by the fact that I'm on holiday :-) (I can't say the same --Ag)

We're also now looking for some voice talent for Derelict. We need to fill plenty of spaces, with the largest unfilled part currently being Terran Command. If you think you have what it takes, send an 11 kHz .wav file of you saying one of the following line to this address.

"Command! We have inbound pirates on attack vector!"

"Alpha, secure the area and deploy the beacons."

Also, take a look at this cool Vasudan logo, designed by Dark And finally, the featured mod for the Derelict campaign has been confirmed. It will be a new ship, but that's all you're getting for now. You'll all have to wait and see it.

To save a bit of download time, we have archived our news page from entries prior to March 25.

I think our friends over at Freespace Watch and Telefragged will be happy that I finally managed to get both the banners and the links to their sites working. While I was at it, I developed my own ad pic for you to link back to this site if you would like. You have a choice of either large or small...

This week is a short preview of some things to come. We have been working on some of the backgrounds to the Tau Sigma cluster, including new planet .pcx files. You can download it and see the first batch of new planets. Included with the file is the appropriate stars.tbl file that you will need. And don't worry, if you already have the extended .tbl file from Descent Chronicles, this stars.tbl file takes that into account.

Accompanying this is a newly updated version of Welcome to the Boonies released all those months ago. It plays essentially the same, but with the new, rich background. If you haven't played this mission, you will need to download the original from the Descent Chronicles Mission Archive first to get all the appropriate sound files.
