OK OK,
I'm going to have to rag on another movie real quick...
This time, "Hackers". Dude, this movie was such
a joke... ok, it was decent, it wasn't absolutely
mind-numbing like Street Fighter, but it sucked still. I
started to laugh when they were sitting there talking
about, "He's Elite, shutup." Reminded me how we
always make fun of being 3|_lt3 at various Volition
chats... and you know, just around... Then I remembered
where I got p1mp from... yep, semi-devised it from
'Hacker type.' And then when they showed the guy in the
big company's computer... what the hell to call it, room
I guess. It wasn't really a room by our standards... you
know, with a desk and maybe a computer on the desk, you
know, similar to a work office. No, it looked more
like... the inside of a computer. Now, I've never seen a
computer setup like that, but damn, all those red
lights... that big ass monitor looking area... the fake
keyboard that was all futuristic... all the boxes around
supposedly different computer... um... things, weird.
Plus... what the hell, I'm so sure that happens a lot
where hackers have to battle the, whatever the hell the
guy was (his title in the company), computer dude...
Plus... I think they were running Unix on all of there
computers... but I've never seen it like that...
specially since they were on Macintosh laptops!! I'm so
sure big-time hackers use Macs for damn near everything
(PFFT! What an inferior OS... sorry... little inside joke
with my dad... he's a mac-attack, I prefer a PC). Anyway,
enough of sorry movies...
um... damn,
I don't know what the hell to talk about now... um... ok.
One thing that gets on my nerves largely is when people
(or companies) say we're the ONLY whatever it is they
offer. Ok, an example, you run a website about a game,
say... 'Deer Hunter 2'. Now, in your emails you have a
signature that reads "The ONLY website devoted to
Deer Hunter 2!" While it may stand true for a game
as bad as DH2, any other game it wouldn't stand true at
all. You're website and/or product is never (this is one
of those times where never say never actually works)
going to be the ONLY one... It may be the only site that
gets recognition, but some hidden site that noone ever
sees makes your site not the only one... If you sell...
lets say... a fake pile of dog dookie, you're not the
only company that 'produces' (snicker!) and sells it...
So... don't claim a lie.
One more
thing that gets entirely on my nerves... Beta Test
Sign-ups. Ok, don't get me wrong, its not the sign ups
themselves that get on my nerves... its the after effects
of people waiting around to find out if they made it or
not, usually in IRC channels. Basically what goes down is
nothing short of a rebellion. People getting all mad
because they don't get picked to be in it even tho they
have been loyal fans of the game for months, but the
people who've never heard of the game and just randomly
signed up get on. Look, life's a biznatch, you'll never
get exactly what you want, but the people who don't want
it as badly will (this is not always true tho...), its
sucks a big one of course... but well, what can ya do.
Then the people get mad at the company because they
didn't pick them for the test... well, how the hell
should the company know who the loyal fans are!? Its not
like they hang out and say 'oh yeah, he's a great fan, he
should be on our test'. No, they have work to do, and
personally don't care who actually gets on the test, as
long as they find some damn bugs...
Which
brings me to another point... people on beta tests NOT
playing the damn game! In all the time I've been playing
games I thought being on a beta test would be like... an
honor, and I still think it is. I mean, you get to sit
there and watch a game evolve into what's released.
Sometimes the game starts out with it almost being done,
and sometimes parts of it are incomplete and there's all
kinds of place-holders... Plus, you get to play the game
way before anyone else and talk with the designers of the
game a lot... I must say, I see that as something very
cool and exciting (damn I sound corny). But seriously,
you get on the test and never play the game... what the
hell is that!? I mean, 10 minutes a day would help a lot,
as long as you reported your bugs 'n stuff. Makes it
difficult to really put out a good beta test where lots
of stuff is fixed and made better when noone helps out...
waste of money almost, especially when there's already a
QA team being payed to do the same thing. I've heard of
this in a lot of beta tests actually, and it really
pisses me off :( So there!
Ok, i might
have to release this tonight, started on the 19th and am
finishing on the 1st, yeah! Anyway... I must say, FDL is
getting semi-crappified... Hopefully when Heiko runs off
to work at Volition he will still be able to admin the
FDL or everything will no doubt go to hell. Lately an
unnamed person has been posting about his campaign and
upcoming website as well. He claims that his work will
make every campaign and every website obsolete, which he
seems to firmly believe this, which is very egotistical
and damn annoying. First, there is no way in hell ANY
website can make ANY other website obsolete... every
website has its pull. Like PFS here, we have my rants
(yeah! :) and we plan each and every Frenzy (with help
from other sites of course), take DC, they have their
excellent moding section, which no other site has
categorized as good... Ross128... they have a few things
too, but unfortunately I don't remember all the letters
that make up the abbreviations, so I can't write them :)
And Descent World... such excellent moding people over
there... requires a visit. There's no way he could
possibly make every reader suddenly stop reading all the
other great resources and suddently switch to him... will
he write better rants? Or suddenly come up with another
great FS event where noone will want to hear about Frenzy
anymore? No, impossible...
And for
making all campaigns obsolete... no... just like sites,
each campaign has its pull and reason for download...
while his campaign may be good (and I hear his work is
good) but it still won't make all campaign's obsolete...
Alright,
that's it... after a very unpleasant conversation with
Kunkathaos (the guy I mentioned above) i'm going to have
to say, try to avoid speaking to him at all costs... He
is such an asshole... just don't call him a chump (which
was my only offense)... Especially if you don't like
cusswords... it appears his entire vocabulary consists of
cusswords and threats which can't be backed online...
Which really annoys me when people say they will beat you
up or kill you when you're in a chat room or on ICQ or
something similar... what's the point... its a waste of
typing... there's nothing you can possibly do thru the
computer... ah dammit... I'm done...
